Looking for something the whole family can enjoy? The next year is full of animated films from Disney, Pixar, DreamWorks, Illumination, LAIKA and more, plus live-action family adventures. Here is our parent-friendly guide, in release order.

• Matchbox: The Movie (Oct 9, Apple TV) — a live-action adventure inspired by the toy cars, starring John Cena.
• Wildwood (Oct 23) — LAIKA's stop-motion fantasy from the studio behind Coraline. It may be intense for very young children.
• The Cat in the Hat (Nov 6) — Dr. Seuss's classic in animation, with Bill Hader voicing the Cat.
• Steps (Nov 20, Netflix) — an animated fantasy.
• Hexed (Nov 25) — an original from Walt Disney Animation Studios.
• Ray Gunn (Dec 18, Netflix) — Brad Bird's animated sci-fi noir, likely better for older kids and adults.
• The Angry Birds Movie 3 (Dec 23).
• Jumanji: Open World (Dec 25) — live-action adventure for families with older children.
